Lazlo Hanyecz, known by his username laszlo, made the first documented purchase of goods with bitcoin on May 22, 2010 when (now famously) paying fellow forum user jercos 10,000 BTC for two Domino’s pizzas. At the time of sale, the bitcoins were worth roughly $41 USD. Since the event, May 22 has been commemorated as Bitcoin Pizza Day.
