Mark Karpelès, also known as MagicalTux, is the former CEO of Mt. Gox exchange which, until its infamous collapse in 2014, once processed the majority of Bitcoin’s transactions. Following Mt. Gox’s bankruptcy, Karpelès was eventually arrested in August 2015 on charges of embezzlement and falsifying data to inflate the exchange’s holdings.
